Ze'ev Waismann: "AI Is a Tool. It Is Not the Director."

HEX's founder on why generative tools expand the canvas — and why judgment still has to sit in the chair.

In a wide-ranging conversation, HEX founder Ze'ev Waismann argued that generative systems are most useful when they remove cost barriers, not creative ones. "The question used to be what we could afford to build," he said. "Now it's whether we have anything worth saying."

HEX's public AI statement — tools in service, not the director — has become a shorthand for the company's stance. The team uses machine systems for scaffolding, exploration, and speed, then routes final taste through human producers and directors who can kill a frame.

Asked about the risk of sameness across AI-assisted work, Waismann pointed back to the mark. "A system is only as good as the laws you refuse to break. Ours are orange as mass, cream as ink, and work first. The tools do not get to rewrite those."
